Do Maltipoos shed?

Because a Maltipoo is a mix between a Poodle and a Maltese (a breed that sheds occasionally), Maltipoos do shed. However, they don’t shed nearly as much as purebred Maltese, and in the grand scheme of dog breeds, they don’t shed much comparatively.

Because there are many types of Maltipoos (f1 Maltipoos, f1b Maltipoos, f2 Maltipoos, etc.), their shedding is proportional to that of their most current predecessors. However,  because both the Poodle and the Maltese are low-shedding breeds, a maltipoo will be a low-shedding option.

Maltipoos come in 2 different coat types: straight or wavy. A straight coat Maltipoo has very long, delicate hair, while a wavy coat Maltipoo may have shorter semi curly hair. These features are determined by genetics. For example, when both parents have the genes for a curly coat, that appears in the Maltipoo dog!

Are Maltipoos hypoallergenic?

Truth be told,  no breed is ever truly 100% hypoallergenic. All dogs have fur that can shed, making it a potential issue for individuals with allergies. Despite being completely hypoallergenic, Maltipoos are a great option.

This is due to the incorporation of poodles into the breed mix. Pet dander, saliva, and urine are the three elements that produce allergic reaction symptoms in individuals who have allergies. Luckily, poodles have only a single coat with low dander, and their fur is non-shedding. Therefore, if your Maltipoo is more poodle than Maltese your pet will be more allergy-friendly. In other words, a f1b Maltipoo (Maltipoo + a poodle) will be more allergy friendly than a f1 Maltipoo (Maltese + poodle).

How big do Maltipoos get?

A full grown Maltipoo can be anywhere from 5-20 pounds. A Maltipoo adult will stand at around 8-14 inches regardless of their gender.

How much does an Maltipoo cost?

Maltipoo price depends on a number of factors, although the general cost is $500-$2500.

Due to their attractive personalities and relatively hypoallergenic nature, the Maltipoo can be quite expensive. There are also a number of other factors that can affect their price, such as:

Color: Maltipoos can come in different colors. In addition to the typical black Maltipoo or white Maltipoo, you can find professionals who specialize in breeding red Maltipoos, apricot Maltipoos, black and white Maltipoos, or brown Maltipoos, among other variations. Typically, the more “exotic” the color, the more expensive the dog.

Coat: Breeders charge different prices based on the coat. Essentially, the more allergy friendly the Maltipoo, the higher the pricing.

Location & Demand: Prices can fluctuate based on where you live, along with the level of demand. Bigger metropolitan cities such as San Francisco or New York will often have higher price tags because both of these places tend to have a higher cost of living, along with a greater demand for allergy-friendly dogs.

Reputation of the Breeder: When you’re trying to bring a Maltipoo into your family, research is critical. Sometimes, spending the extra money and time finding a reliable breeder can make a world of a difference. Keep in mind that you can also find Maltipoos in shelters and other rescue centers if that is what you prefer.

How long do Maltipoos live?

In general, Maltipoos will live between 10-15 years. However, there can still be outliers within these statistics. For example, smaller dogs usually live longer than larger dogs. An increased Maltipoo lifespan can also be attributed to crossbreeding (crossbred dogs usually outlive their purebred counterparts) along with the place you have purchased your dog (for a reputable breeder, you will likely see a longer lifespan for your dog).

What’s a Maltipoo’s temperament?

Maltipoos are known for their gentle, loving dispositions. They typically get along well with other pets and people, and make great companion animals. Maltipoos are also intelligent, and easily trained. They are outgoing and enjoy being around people, but can also be content relaxing at home. They are amazing family dogs that are especially good around children, but really, they do well with people of all ages. Maltipoos typically have a lot of energy and do best with daily exercise.

Conclusion

The Maltipoo is a hybrid breed that combines the best of both the Maltese and the Poodle. These dogs are highly intelligent and very affectionate, making them ideal companions. They are also relatively low-maintenance, as they do not require a lot of grooming. Maltipoos are a popular choice for families with young children, as they are gentle and good natured. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving friend, the Maltipoo is definitely the breed for you!
