Wondering about Bernedoodle size? A Bernedoodle is a recognized dog breed that is a Bernese Mountain Dog and Poodle crossed together. The Bernedoodle is loved for its adorable appearance and its sweet temperament.

Bernese Mountain Dogs are very big dogs indeed. On the other hand, Poodle lovers will know that this breed comes in quite a few different sizes – Standard, Miniature, and Toy. Therefore, it stands to reason that Bernedoodle size can differ.  But how big do Bernedoodles get? This all depends on the size category they have been bred for, which is where the size of the Poodle parent comes into play.

Keep reading to discover everything you need to know about Bernedoodle size. These gorgeous dogs come in a size to fit everyone!

  • To sum it up:

The Standard Bernedoodle

This is the largest type of Bernedoodle. The Standard full-grown Bernedoodle weighs between 70 and 90 pounds, and stands 23 to 29 inches tall.

Like all dogs, males will be larger than females, with breeders citing that males will be 10 percent larger, as a general rule of thumb. This applies to the Mini and the Toy Bernedoodle sizes too.

The Miniature Bernedoodle

The Miniature full-grown Bernedoodle weighs in at around 25 to 50 pounds, and measures 18 to 22 inches at the shoulder.

If you’re wondering how big the Mini Bernedoodle can get, you can read more about them here.

The Toy Bernedoodle, (also known as the Micro Bernedoodle)

The Toy Bernedoodle, when fully grown, will weigh between 8 to 13 pounds, and measure 12 to 17 inches high at the shoulder. As the name suggests, this is the smallest of the Bernedoodle sizes.

How Fast Does a Bernedoodle Grow?

This is an interesting question, because the speed of growth in this dog depends on which size category it belongs to. The larger the Bernedoodle, the longer they take to grow.

Bernese Mountain Dogs, like all large breeds, take around 2 years to fully grow. Poodles, being smaller, take around 18 months to attain their full adult size. With that being said, a Standard Bernedoodle will take longer to grow than a Miniature or Toy Bernedoodle. The Standard will take around 2 years to fully grow, whilst the smaller sizes take around 18 months to fully grow.

Having said that, Bernedoodles of all sizes will generally reach their final adult height by the age of 12 months; it is their final weight that takes a little more time to establish.

Bernedoodle puppies of all sizes will experience the biggest growth spurt when they are between 4 and 8 months old.

Which Bernedoodle Size is Right For Me?

The answer to this question largely depends on you and your lifestyle. Do you have a larger home and car to accommodate the Standard Bernedoodle size? Are you physically able to walk a dog of its size? Or do you have a smaller home and car, and prefer to take shorter walks? If that’s the case, then the Miniature or Toy breed may be a better choice for you.

Consider dog grooming too—bathing a larger dog is always logistically trickier, and grooming fees for larger dogs are higher too. You can read more about Bernedoodle grooming tips and advice here.

To sum it up:

Bernedoodles come in three sizes. The Standard is the largest, the Miniature is the next size, and the Toy/Micro is the smallest. The rate of growth depends on the size category, with the Standard taking the longest to reach its final adult size. Owners must consider their lifestyle before choosing their Bernedoodle.

No matter which size you decide to opt for, these beautiful dogs come in a size to suit everyone.
