What Do I Need?

The first thing you’ll need to clean your dog’s ears is a dog-specific ear cleaner. You can find these cleaners at most pet stores or online. Avoid using cotton swabs or anything else that could potentially hurt your dog’s ear canal.

Next, you’ll need a soft cloth or gauze pad. This will be used to remove any excess ear cleaner or debris from your dog’s ears.

Finally, you’ll need something to treat your dog with after the cleaning process is complete. This could be a favorite toy or a tasty treat!

How to Clean A Dog’s Ears

The steps below will walk you through how to clean your pet’s ears at home:

  1. Start by putting some ear cleaner on a gauze pad or soft cloth.
  2. Gently wipe the inside of your dog’s earflap with the pad or cloth.
  3. Take a look at the pad or cloth to see if there is any dirt or debris on it. If so, continue wiping until the pad or cloth comes away clean.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for your dog’s other ear.
  5. Give your dog a treat or toy to reward them for being a good sport!

A Homemade Solution to Clean Your Dog’s Ears

If you don’t have any dog-specific ear cleaner on hand, don’t worry! You can easily make a homemade solution using ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen.

To make a homemade ear cleaner, mix together 1 part water and 1 part white vinegar. Then, put the solution into a clean spray bottle and label it clearly.

When you’re ready to use the cleaner, simply spray some into your dog’s earflaps and then wipe away with a gauze pad or soft cloth. Finish by rewarding your dog with a treat or toy!

Should You Use Q-Tips?

You may be wondering if it’s safe to use Q-tips to clean your dog’s ears. The answer is no! Q-tips can actually do more harm than good because they can easily break and become lodged in your dog’s ear canal. Stick to using a gauze pad or soft cloth instead.

How Often to Clean Your Dog’s Ears

How often you need to clean your dog’s ears will depend on a few factors, including how much time they spend outside and how prone they are to getting dirty ears. Generally speaking, you should aim to clean your dog’s ears at least once a week. If you notice that your dog’s ears are particularly dirty or if they seem to be in pain, it’s best to take them to the vet for a professional cleaning.

Cleaning your dog’s ears at home is a simple and effective way to keep their ears healthy and free of dirt, debris, and infection. By following the steps above, you can easily keep your dog’s ears clean and healthy!
