Do Peekapoos shed?

Although a Peekapoo is a mix between a Poodle and a Pekingese (a breed that sheds a lot), Peekapoos do shed. However, they don’t shed nearly as much as purebred Pekingese, and in the grand scheme of dog breeds, they don’t shed much comparatively.

Because there are many types of Peekapoos (f1 Peekapoos, f1b Peekapoos, f2 Peekapoos, etc.), their shedding is proportional to the amount of poodle genes inherited from their most current predecessors. If a Peekapoo has more poodle characteristics, then that pooch is likely to shed less.

Peekapoos come in 2 different coat types: wavy or curly. A wavy coat dog has very long, delicate hair, while a curly coat Peekapoo may have shorter, curlier hair. These features are determined by genetics. For example, when both parents have the genes for a curly coat, that appears in the Peekapoo dog.

Are Peekapoos hypoallergenic?

Truth be told,  no breed is ever truly 100% hypoallergenic. All dogs have fur that can shed, making it a potential issue for individuals with allergies. Despite being completely hypoallergenic, Peekapoos are one of the most allergy-friendly dog breeds on the market.

This is mainly because of the mixture of poodle characteristics found in the Peekapoos. Pet dander, saliva, and urine are the three elements that can commonly produce allergic reactions.

Luckily, poodles have only a single coat with low dander, and their fur is non-shedding. Therefore, if your Peekapoo is more poodle than Pekingese, your pet will be more allergy-friendly. In other words, a f1b Peekapoo (Peekapoo + a poodle) will be more allergy friendly than a f1 Peekapoo (Pekingese + poodle).

How big do Peekapoos get?

Full grown Peekapoos can be anywhere from 4-20 pounds. They stand at around 8-11 inches. Even though these pooches are comparatively smaller than the other dogs, it does not seem to impede their warmth and gentleness.

How much does a Peekapoo cost?

Peekapoo price depends on a number of factors, although the general cost is $900-$2315.

Due to their attractive personalities and relatively hypoallergenic nature, these breeds are more expensive than other dog breeds. There are also a number of factors that affect their price, such as:

Color: Peekapoos can have different colored furs. In addition to the typical black Peekapoo or white Peekapoo, you can find professionals who specialize in breeding sable Peekapoos , cream Peekapoos or even apricot Peekapoos, among other variations. Typically, the more “exotic” the color, the more expensive the Peekapoo may be.

Coat: Breeders charge different prices based on the coat. Essentially, the more allergy friendly and poodle-like Peekapoo, the higher the pricing.

Location & Demand: Prices can fluctuate based on where you live, along with the level of demand for the Peekapoo based on the area. Bigger metropolitan cities such as San Francisco or New York will often have higher price tags because both of these places tend to have a higher cost of living, along with a greater need for allergy-friendly dogs.

Reputation of the Breeder: When you’re trying to bring a Peekapoo into your family, research is critical. Sometimes, spending the extra money and time to find a reputable breeder can make a world of a difference. Keep in mind that you can also find Peekapoos in shelters and other rescue centers if that is what you prefer!

How long do Peekapoos live?

In general, Peekapoos will live between 10-15 years. However, there can be outliers within these statistics. For example, smaller dogs usually live longer than larger dogs and because of this, a smaller Peekapoo will be expected to live longer than a bigger Peekapoo. An increased Peekapoo lifespan can also be attributed to crossbreeding (crossbred dogs usually outlive their purebred counterparts) along with the place you have purchased the pooch (for a reputable breeder, you will likely see a longer lifespan for your dog).

What’s a Peekapoo’s temperament?

Peekapoos are loving and supportive, providing a gentle presence to all that is around them. They are amazing family dogs that are especially good around children, but also do well with people of all ages. They’re the perfect company for anyone seeking to feel a calm, relaxing connection with their pooch.

Conclusion

When you think about an amazing dog, you probably imagine a sociable, loyal dog that will patiently be by your side. If that sounds like your kind of dog, then a Peekapoo may be a perfect addition to your family.
